They bought their first home at 18.
For young first home buyers Jade and Jay – buying their first home before they were 18 years old was not just a dream. With a solid deposit saved from their jobs as pastry cooks, the young couple were disappointed at being rejected by financial institutions as they had not yet reached 18 years of age.
“It was a big disappointment for us as we had saved very hard to build our deposit – and had covered off all of the Banks' requirements – apart from our age,” said Jay. At the time of application, Jay was 18 but his girlfriend Jade was 17 years old.
The couple were referred to Smartline Mortgage Broker Harold Parkinson who found them a lender that was flexible in its approach to the young couple – providing the pre-approval on finance, subject only to Jade turning 18 before a property was acquired.
The young couple found their dream home, a three-bedroom house in Victoria’s Sunbury, just days before Jade’s 18th birthday.
“We are so happy with our new home and how lucky we were to be dealing with companies who are prepared to create a solution for us, rather than just reject our application based on age,” Jay said.
