Stephen Game – Personal Mortgage Adviser
Stephen is a dedicated personal mortgage adviser who values honesty, integrity and diversity. He has a passion for helping his clients to realise their full financial and personal potential.
‘Whether a client wants to retire early, afford higher education for their children, travel overseas, buy a holiday home, fly business class, or just reduce stress levels and live more simply, I have the professional experience and knowledge to help create a lending solution to help them achieve those things. It’s that aspiration that gets me out of bed in the mornings,’ he says.
Stephen is driven not by sales or commissions, but a genuine desire to help his clients attain financial wellbeing. ‘Placing an important asset like a home loan into the hands of a consultant who has no sense of risk management or insight into an individual’s unique needs is as unappealing to me as it is to you,’ he says. ‘That’s why I personally advise and coordinate with every one of my clients. Rather than sell complicated products, interest rates and packages that may not be suitable, I offer a more strategic, holistic approach. I take a broader view and develop a solution that’s perhaps part of a five-year wealth-generation plan.’
He prides himself on building long-term relationships with his clients by providing professional service, sound advice, and adhering to ethical lending practices. ‘I often assist clients over the course of many years and even across multiple generations,’ he says. ‘I treat each client with the same care as I do my immediate family. For example, if I don’t recommend something to my family, I wouldn’t recommend it to my clients,’ he says.
Stephen holds a number of tertiary qualifications, including two Bachelor degrees and a Diploma in Finance and Mortgage Broking Management. He spent the first 20 years of his career in the corporate world, holding a variety of high-level management roles for leading multi-nationals. ‘A lot of my work involved problem-solving and the ability to understand where a client is coming from and what they’re trying to achieve, which has served me well in my role as a mortgage adviser,’ he says. ‘Essentially, I’ve been able to take those skills and experiences, and deliver outside-the-box thinking to my clients.’
Immediately prior to joining Smartline, Stephen ran his own mortgage broking business for six years. During this time he gained considerable experience supporting clients to purchase blue-chip property in Melbourne and Sydney and advising families on how to help their children enter the property market in a safe, risk-managed way.
He’s passionate about property investment and views it as an excellent vehicle for generating wealth. ‘I’ve bought and sold over 20 properties, and been lucky enough to improve my wealth creation as a direct result of property investment. When assisting clients with their loans, I am able to share learning from my own property investment experience, both the positives and negatives, to help benefit them on their own journeys.’
Stephen specialises in home loans (for owner-occupiers and investors), commercial loans and asset finance. He is fully mobile, and while he primarily services Melbourne and Sydney, he is happy to help clients throughout Australia. As an active member of the LGBTIQ+ community, he also has a particular focus on assisting clients in this area.
