Favourite client story …

I love it when my clients have struggled to get a loan, often over several years, and I’m able to help them out. Some of them just can’t believe it when I make it happen.

Inspired by …

In the same vein, I love to hear stories of people who have struggled against many obstacles but still managed to succeed in their business.

On females …

I think we can often bring a warmer side to mortgage broking which tends to facilitate a closer relationship. The client-broker relationship has the potential to be deeper than other working relationships since clients need to share a certain amount of personal information with us. I’ve had many clients feel they’ve really got to know me and trust me, and eventually a friendship can result. I have been to a few housewarmings, and have been called up about babies being born, new jobs or starting a business. I’ve had clients crying on the phone when I’ve rung to say their loan has been approved. Of course, these things can happen with any broker, male or female, but I do think, generally, females particularly tend to feel more comfortable sharing with other females.

On Smartline …

For me, the best thing about Smartline is having the support of other brokers. They really are just a phone call away if you need to ask a question or if you’ve had a bad day and you need to share. They’ve been there and will understand!

To someone considering joining Smartline, I have two pieces of advice:

  1. Don’t be daunted by numbers. You need to do things at your own pace and that’s OK.
  2. Don’t isolate yourself. Get to know the other brokers by going to functions – they will be a great support for you in the future. We work by ourselves for ourselves but there is a wider network there that you will benefit from.
