Peter Swan

Peter’s new franchise was a win-win for all concerned

For franchisee Peter Swan, owning a Smartline franchise has been a great choice financially, personally and professionally.

Having been involved in real estate investment for over 20 years, Peter had become very interested in the financing of property purchases and by extension, the possibilities of what a broker can offer. “I decided I wanted to help others achieve their property and finance goals,” he says.

18 months on, Peter says he gets a huge amount of personal satisfaction from the job. “It’s extremely rewarding,” he says. “Talking to different people all the time brings variety, which keeps me going. It also allows me to combine my love of real estate and general knowledge of property investing with my work.”

Having the backing of the Smartline group has been invaluable to Peter. “When we joined Smartline, I was really excited to have the backup and support available. With just one phone call, I was able to get expert guidance and advice, which was very reassuring, particularly in the beginning. The management and support team were not only knowledgeable but friendly and helpful.”

Peter was equally impressed with Smartline’s values. “Right from my first meeting with Smartline, I could see it was a company that cares about people and their families,” Peter says. “They were extremely professional, and my wife and I were impressed with their overall integrity. We only wanted to be involved with a business that was fair and ethical, and today we are still glad we made the right choice.”

One of the big advantages of having your own business is the flexibility it brings that working for someone else doesn’t usually allow. Particularly for those with children, this can offer a quality of family life that is invaluable. “The flexibility in my hours means I can make it work with my day to day family life. I am my own boss and can coordinate my schedule to suit my other commitments. This is great for me – and my children’s – well-being. Financially as well, I feel I am building a solid future for my family.”

Peter’s top tips are:

  • Persevere, work hard and be committed to being disciplined with your day.

  • Never stop asking questions, and utilising other Smartline franchisees’ knowledge.

  • The biggest challenge is building a client base, so work hard to make this happen.

  • Financial rewards don’t come in the business’s infancy.

Plan ahead so you can weather this without financial stress.
